How to set up theme app extensions in Split Payment & Deposit?
A great user experience is important to the success of our merchants. Therefore, Split Payment & Deposit uses theme app extensions to work perfectly with any theme. This allows you to have control over the look and feel of every aspect of your online store and to configure the app features to your liking.
Below, you’ll find the theme app extension setup guide.
Instructions differ depending on which theme you’re using — a vintage theme or an Online Store 2.0 theme.
Online Store 2.0 themes
If you have an Online Store 2.0 compatible theme like Dawn, follow the instructions below to set up theme app extensions.
1. Switch on the app in the theme
First, you need to switch on the app in the theme. You can do this in Shopify admin or straight in the app.
In the app
If you’re a new user of Split — Partial Payments or an old user who reinstalled our app, you’ll see the ‘Switch on the app in the theme’ notification at the top of the app’s homepage.
Click the Go to theme button in the notification. Make sure that the Split — Partial Payments toggle switch is active (by default) and click Save in the right upper corner.
In Shopify admin
Alternatively, you can do this in Shopify admin:
Go to Online Store > Themes.
Click the Customize button near your theme name.
Click App embeds.
Click the Split — Partial Payments toggle switch to activate it.
Click Save.
2. Add app blocks to the theme
Next, you need to add the following app features to your Online Store 2.0 theme:
Installment message
Installment widget
Deposit widget
In the app
New users and old users who reinstalled the app can do this easily by following the links in the notification, changing block positions (if needed), and clicking Save.
In Shopify admin
Alternatively, you can do this in Shopify admin:
Go to Online Store > Themes.
Click the Customize button near your theme name.
Navigate to the page where you want to add the app section. The Split button is placed on the Cart Page, while the installment message and installment widget are placed on the Product page.
Click the Add block button.
Under APPS, select the app features you want to add. You can add the Installment message, Installment widget, and Deposit widget to the Product page
Drag and drop the selected feature to the right place.
Click Save.
3. [Optionally] Set up the Split button
The Split button placement on the Cart page is set by default. However, if you want to change its position, you can use either app blocks or selectors.
In case you use both methods to set up the Split button placement, priority is given to app blocks configurations.
4. The app integrates with your theme
When a feature is added, you’ll see the checkmark near it. After you add all features of the app, you’ll see the ‘Your theme is ready’ notification on the app’s homepage.
Control feature visibility with the help of Enable/Disable buttons in the app.
Vintage themes
If you have a vintage theme, follow the instructions below to set up theme app extensions.
1. Switch on the app in the theme
First, you need to switch on the Split — Partial Payments app in the theme. You can do this in Shopify admin or straight in the app.

2. The app integrates with your theme
You’ll see the ‘Your theme is ready’ notification on the app’s homepage if everything is done correctly.
3. [Optionally] Configure the placement of app features
Use selectors to choose where to place the following app features on a page:
Split button (Split payment settings > Button placement > Change)
Installment message (Installment payment settings > Message placement > Change)
Installment widget (Installment payment settings > Widget placement > Change)
